It's Time for Festivus!
Two things about The Royale: we believe in respecting the faiths and traditions of all; and we get to planning some of our holiday events just as late as everyone else. As the clock hasn't yet struck midnight on Festivus planning, we've got a few thoughts on how you should spend Thursday, December 23, 2010, this year's Festivus. As most know, Festivus is a festival for the rest of us, popularized (thought not invented by) the iconic sitcom "Seinfeld." As brought to the attention of the masses via that show, Festivus involves a few key ingredients: an unadorned aluminum pole; feats of strength; and an airing of grievances. This Thursday, The Royale will bring these disparate pieces of Festivus lore to life. For example, we have dusted off our Festivus poles and plan on displaying them, sans any adornment, for the duration of the evening. After 9:30 p.m., we'll also work on the participatory aspects of Festivus. Here's where you come in.When arriving at The Royale, walk right up to our doorman and Festivus Coordinator, who'll first engage you in a feat of strength, which will be presented to you right there at the door. If you pass this Herculean test, you'll be handed a form. This paper will describe the ways in which you'll be allowed to present your printed grievances. Each hour, winners in the literary grievance contest will be picked for fabulous prizes. At the end of the evening, a winner (needing to be present) will be selected for a grand prize, of undoubtedly great value and prestige. After that presentation at close, you're some other bar's problem... er... valued customer! To recap your Thursday night plans: come down and marvel at our poles; then engage in a feat of strength; and, lastly, put your pen to work on our grievance contest. All the while, bask in the collegial glow provided by The Royale's staff on this, the most interesting of winter's holidays!Festivus GatheringThursday, December 239:30 p.m. - closeThe Royale Food & Spirits3132 S.
